Holona Ochs

Biography

Holona Ochs is Associate Professor of Political Science. She earned a doctorate and master’s degree from the University of Kansas and a master’s and bachelor’s degree from Kansas State University. Prior to arriving at Lehigh in 2009, she served in the Department of Political Science at Howard University. She is the author of Privatizing the Polity (SUNY Press) and co-author of Getting a Cut: A Contextual Understanding of Commission Systems and Gratuity: A Contextual Understanding of Tipping Norms from the Perspective of Tipped Employees (both published by Lexington Press). She has published in Public Personnel Management; Journal of Public Management and Social Policy; Journal of Ethnicity in Criminal Justice; Justice Research and Policy; Journal of Public Affairs Education; Policy Studies Journal; Social Science Quarterly; and American Politics Research. Her research examines the “welfarist left hand" and the "carceral right hand" of governance and the enactment through the private for-profit and nonprofit sectors. Her research agenda aims to generate an understanding of the contractual arrangements that foster mutuality and promote credible commitments in governance.
