Biography
Dr. Christopher P. Borick is a Professor of Political Science in the Department of Political Science at Lehigh University and a nationally recognized scholar in the field of public opinion research and environmental policy. Over the course of his career, he has directed numerous highly regarded public opinion research centers at academic institutions, and during the upcoming year Borick will be engaged in the development of a new institute at Lehigh focused on the measurement and impacts of public attitudes, beliefs and behaviors.
Throughout the past three decades Borick has engaged in research related to public opinion primarily in the areas of elections, the environment and health policy. He has authored or co-authored four books and dozens of scholarly articles and book chapters during his career. He is also the co-author of a forthcoming book with Berwood Yost entitled, Anatomy of a Swing State: Understanding Political Change and Stability in Pennsylvania from 2000 – 2024. From 2008 to the present Dr. Borick has directed the National Surveys on Energy and the Environment (NSEE), a series of national probability-based surveys that focuses on the American public’s views on climate change related matters.
Dr. Borick’s research is regularly cited in major media outlets such as the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Washington Post and the Economist. He often provides commentary for a variety of television, radio and online platforms including the BBC, NPR, NBC News, ABC News, Fox News and 60 Minutes. Borick has served as the president of both the Pennsylvania and Wisconsin Political Science Associations and on the executive board of the Association of Academic Survey Research Organizations.
During his career Dr. Borick’s teaching and student advising have been honored numerous times including awards from the State University of New York, Saint Norbert College and Muhlenberg College. Borick has also been recognized for advancing the public’s understanding of higher education, receiving the College and University Public Relations Association of Pennsylvania’s Arthur V. Ciervo Award.
Borick received a BA from the Pennsylvania State University in American studies, an MA in political science from East Stroudsburg University and a PhD in political science from the State University of New York at Binghamton. Before entering academia Borick held positions in government at both the county and federal levels, including with the Monroe County Pennsylvania Planning Commission and the United States Department of the Treasury. Dr. Borick is a native of Scranton, Pennsylvania and has lived in Nazareth, PA for the past quarter century along with his wife Lisa and their sons Sam and John.
