Call for Paper Submission: “In Pursuit of a More Perfect Union.”

Wednesday, April 7, 2021 - 7:42am

According to the preamble of the U.S. Constitution:

We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.

To enhance civic education at Lehigh University and beyond, all declared political science majors are invited and encouraged to submit a brief essay entitled “In Pursuit of a More Perfect Union.” The essay will be no more than 4-5 pages in length (single-spaced; Word format; and 12 point Times-New Roman font). Undergraduate majors will explain how American democracy can be made more effective, now and into the future.

Depending on the number and quality of submissions, it is the hope of the faculty members in the Department of Political Science to award several cash prizes, none less than $500. Student winners who are selected for a cash prize may be asked to revise their papers, as they will be ultimately posted on the department’s website.

The deadline for submissions is Wednesday, April 7, 2021, at 5:00 p.m. All submissions should be sent to: Professor Brian Fife, Chair of the Department of Political Science, at blf218@lehigh.edu.
